Rue 21 Silver Glittery Lip Gloss

Hi everyone!

A couple of years ago, I would say about 3 or so, a couple of female friends and I decided to have a girls day by going out on a little shopping spree. We hopped in the car and off we went to an outdoor mall. I had never really heard or shopped at Rue 21 at that time so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I ended up buying a pair of pants, a belt, and 3 lip gloss that were either on sale or a buy 3 for a certain price. I think they may have been on sale for like 99cents each or something. They were right by the register. As you may have been reading in my blog I used to collect lip gloss every where I went. I had to buy lip gloss of some kind.

I did research on the official Rue 21 website (rue21.com). Rue 21 has their beauty products listed on their website under the For Girls tab and then under RUEBEAUTE then there is a little tab called lips. They apparently still sell a clear lip gloss in a similar package of the plastic tube. I'm not sure if it is the formula as the one I have, but for only $1.99

In this blog I am going to be reviewing the Rue 21 Clear Lip Gloss. All of the product information has been rubbed off so I have no idea if it was part of a special collection because both the clear and the silver lip glosses have cute hearts on the packaging. I cannot find a silver/shimmery lip gloss like this one under the RUEBEAUTE tab. They have a lot of varieties of pinks on there though. I am going to assume that silver lip glosses have been discontinued.

*Fair warning: the product packaging has been discontinued. I am assuming the product in this specific lip gloss has been discontinued.*

Comments: I thought I bought this on sale for 99 cents, but the other lip glosses I looked up were about $1.99 which isn't bad either. The packaging is simple, but cute, it comes in packaging very similar to most lip glosses. I like that it has a red heart on the packaging. You definitely get a decent amount of product for the price. In the packaging this lip gloss looks silver, but I think it was meant to be a clear lip gloss with tons of glitter. I took a point off because it looks like it should have some pigment, but it doesn't have any. It definitely looks like it's supposed to be glittery and it definitely is. This lip gloss lasts just as long as normal lip glosses. This lip gloss has a neutral smell, but I feel that it tries to have a sweet smell. This lip gloss I feel tries to have a sweet after taste, but fails miserably because it tastes like waxy, chemical, with a very slight hint of sweet. This lip gloss applies thick, but once it settles into the lips it's not as thick. I think this is a bit thicker because of all the glitter so it needs to be thick so it doesn't feel sandy/gritty. The lip gloss applies smoothly and evenly to the lips. Since this is meant to be a semi-clear lip gloss, but mostly glittery, this lip gloss should go well on dry and non dry lips as well as provide glitter to the lips. I would buy this again if I could. Most clear glittery lip glosses are clear with tons of glitter. This one tries to be a silver glittery lip gloss. I like it. I would recommend this product, but since it's discontinued I can't.

*Fair warning: the product as seen in this blog has been discontinued, but Rue 21 has a similar clear lip gloss with a different name, Pink Ice Tube Lips, even though the product does not appear pink, it appears clear. The plastic tube packaging is the same. I have no idea about the formulas.*

Comments: I thought I paid about 99 cents each for the 3 lip glosses I bought. The website says these are $1.99 which is also not bad on pricing. The packaging is simple, but cute, it's what most lip glosses come in now a days. I do like the cute red heart on the packaging as an added. For the price you get a decent amount of product. This lip gloss is just a simple clear lip gloss. This lip gloss lasts as long as other lip glosses. This lip gloss doesn't really have a smell. I do prefer lip glosses that have even a hint of a sweet scent, but since it doesn't have one it is very versatile for those who don't like scents. The taste and after taste of this lip gloss is pretty waxy with a bit of chemical. It's not the worst I have tasted, but I don't like it. The texture of this lip gloss is that it does go on a little bit thick, but once it settles into the lips it doesn't feel as thick. I wouldn't say it's sticky. The application is smooth and even. This is a perfect lip gloss for both dry and non dry lips as well as all different skin colors. It's a very nice clear lip gloss to make the lips appear smooth and hydrated. Even though I can't buy this specific packaging, I would definitely buy their currently clear lip gloss. It's cheap and it works. For most other even drug store brands of clear lip gloss are more than that. The only brands I can think of, if they offer clear lip gloss, are Lip Smackers, Wet and Wild, and New York Color. These companies have 99 cent products.

Rue 21 Lip Candy Lip Gloss [no name]

Hi everyone!

A couple of years ago, I would say about 3 or so, a couple of female friends and I decided to have a girls day by going out on a little shopping spree. We hopped in the car and off we went to an outdoor mall. I had never really heard or shopped at Rue 21 at that time so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect.

They apparently do not sell this lip gloss anymore. They don't even have anything called lip candy. All of the packaging is the same as the other 2 lip glosses that I bought.

The review I am going to be doing in this blog is the Rue 21 Lip Candy Lip Gloss which is the only product information I could make out because everything else has been rubbed off. This particular lip candy lip gloss is a two lip glosses in one, but they are connected at each end. One side of the packaging has a very pretty bright pink color and the other side of the packaging has a very cute striped pink and white lip gloss. It's very cute, but not meant for anything serious.

*Fair warning: the product mentioned in this blog, the Rue 21 Lip Candy Lip Gloss in no name, has been discontinued.*

Price: 10/10

My personal rating: 8/10=80%=B

Comments: I think I paid like 99 cents each for this product, but according to the website their lip gloss says $1.99 which isn't bad either. It's a very cheap lip gloss. The packaging is cute, I like how it's a double ended lip gloss with a different lip gloss on each side. I don't like the packaging because the product does leak out of it creating messes so I took a point off for that. For the price you get a decent amount of product. The reason why I gave the pigment the full points is because the bright pink colored lip gloss shows up pigmented, the other lighter pink with the white lip gloss goes on more clear, but I don't think the striped lip gloss is meant to be pigmented. The longevity of the lip gloss is about as long as a normal lip gloss. The lip gloss smells very waxy smelling. It tries to have a sweet smell to it, but it comes off more waxy/chemically than sweet. The aftertaste of the lip gloss is also very waxy/chemically, but it's not as bad as some of the other lip glosses I reviewed. The texture of this lip gloss is a bit on the thick side and a little bit sticky. I don't mind it, but I know some people do. This lip gloss goes on smoothly and evenly. I didn't have any problems. Because the lip gloss is a bit on the thick side it applied smoothly and evenly even on my dry lips. I'm not sure how well the pigment might show up on different skin colors, but I think it might give off a bit of a pink color. If I could recommend this lip gloss I would and if I could repurchase this product I would because I do think it's cute and it gives some color. It could be used when quickly doing makeup.

Covergirl Perfect Blend Pencil Crayon [eyeliner in black]

Hey everyone!

This should be the last week of old discontinued/repackaged/renamed/limited edition products. Last week and this week had a special category of no name products because the product brand name and/or name had been rubbed off.

In Today's blog I am going to be reviewing a Covergirl Perfect Blend Pencil in the color black. The reason why this product was placed under the special category of no name is because the only reason why I can make out that it even says Covergirl Perfect Blend Pencil Crayon is because it had been engraved into what feels like wood of the actual pencil. I have no idea what the name of it is because either it wasn't put on there or over the years the name got sharpened away. The color comes off as black. That is why I added the in black part.

I usually don't like or use pencil eye liners, but what I really like about this eye liner is that on one end you have the eye liner pencil product and on the other side it comes with a little sponge-like tip that can be used for smudging the eye liner. I don't know why, but I think that idea is really cute! Back in the day it was probably a fairly new and original idea. I like that it gives that option.

I have no idea how much I paid for this product, but I've had it quite a long time. I did some research on this product on the Covergirl official website and according to them, this product is actually still around. The only option they have is Basic Black so I assume that what I have and what that is are fairly the same. I went on Walmart's website to check out the price of this product and it says the price is between $2.62 to $4.44. I don't know why there is such a huge difference in pricing. I don't like how Walmart does that. The product looks pretty much the same. I don't know if they did renames or repackaged this item. I'm sure they changed something about it, but it still comes with the sponge-like tip for smudging. It appears they may have changed the name from Crayon Pencil to Eye Pencil. They may have changed formulas.

The product claims are: soft smudger for expert blending and water resistant. I do agree that the spongy tip does allow for smudging and does a good job. I don't have an issue with that. But I don't like the claim that it is water resistant because I have not experienced that myself personally with this product. I do not know with 100% certainty if the one I have was also advertised as waterproof or not. But that doesn't make a lot of sense to me because if it's actually waterproof, then why try to sell this product as the perfect smokey eye with a spongy tip for smudging? I don't know, that kind of doesn't make sense to me. How did Covergirl go so long with selling this product as both a waterproof and a smudging eye liner? In my head that screams oxymoron. Why would I want a waterproof eye liner that smudges? And if it smudges, then is it really waterproof?

*Fair warning: this product appears to still exist in the Covergirl line, but it appears to have been semi-repackaged, renamed, and may have been reformulated. My product doesn't say which eye liner it is, but I am going to assume Basic Black/Black.

I would also like to warn that this product advertising involves an oxymoron. I don't think you can have a water resistant smudgy eye liner.*

RATING:

Price: 9/10
Packaging: 8/10
Amount of product: 10/10
Pigment: 10/10
Longevity: 8/10
Product claim- water resistant: 6/10
Application: 8/10
Overall product: 8/10
Would I buy it again: 7/10
Total: 74/90=82.22%=82.2%=B

My personal rating: 7/10=70%=C

Comments: I took a point off because even the price isn't that bad, especially around $3.00, the fact that Walmart is playing games by having such varied price between the same product is a bit ridiculous. I don't have any issues with the packaging, it looks like any normal eye liner pencil. I like that it comes with a spongy tip on the end for smudging, although, I took points off because I personally am not a big fan of eye liners that are pencils that I have to sharpen. I prefer the eye liners where you can twist the product in and out. For the price, even at the highest end of about $5.00, you definitely get a decent amount of product! I like the pigment because the color definitely shows up dark, but with the spongy tip you do have the option of dulling it down, depending on your personal preference. I really like that this product allows the consumer to control whether they want to have vivid pigment of the eye liner or have a more subtle eye liner so it definitely got the full points for being versatile like that. When it comes to longevity of the product is when things get a bit messy when talking about this product. I applied it to my hand, waited about a minute or so, and then rubbed it and the color came off, except it left a very subtle black line behind. I would say that this product would last for a couple of hours tops before it started fading. Now the issue that I have with this product is that Covergirl claims that this product is waterproof, but at the same time being smudgy. On the official Covergirl website the description of the product is that it is a blendable eye liner and doesn't claim anything about being water resistant, but if you scroll down and off to the side the website underneath the product picture it says water resistant. I just don't understand that concept. I also disagree that this eye liner is water resistant because as I mentioned above for longevity, this product after sitting for about a minute on my hand then rubbed with my finger came off way too easily. In fact the more I rubbed it the more the product came off. Before when it left a very faint line, you can barely see that line. I cannot see and have not seen this eye liner be water resistant. I had to take off major points for this claim. The application of this product for me is not very smooth, but that could be because I have had it for quite some time. I am taking that into consideration. The eye liner on me does not apply evenly or smoothly. From what I remember about using this product in the past is that it didn't apply evenly or smoothly then either. The product fades out over time. If it's extremely hot or you are working up a sweat then this product fades. I would definitely buy this product again if I used eye liner pencils and if I was creating a smokey eye look. I would recommend this product for short/air conditioned events even though it says water resistant.

Thank you so much for reading!

Marina

Walmart Mini Haul Maybelline Color Tattoo and L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows from 03/01/2013

Hi everyone!

The past couple of weeks I have been doing a lot of research on the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Eye Shadows and the L'Oreal Paris Infallible 24HR Eye Shadows. I was really excited because I have very oily lids and it's so difficult to wear eye shadow. I went on Youtube and bing.com to search about each of these products and I even found videos comparing the two products. A lot of people on youtube and in their personal blogs were raving about either one or the other product or both.

I know that L'Oreal and Maybelline are owned by the same company, but Maybelline tends to be on the cheaper side of the drugstore while L'Oreal tends to be on the higher end of the drugstore. I was debating for a while whether I should get one of each or if I should go with L'Oreal or if I should go with Maybelline. I found that most of the reviews I watched and/or read, tended to lean towards Maybelline. People went as far as even comparing the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Shadows to the MAC Paint Pots. When I kept hearing and reading this product being compared to MAC Paint Pots I had to check these out!

While I was grocery shopping on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at my local Walmart I decided to swing by the makeup isle. At the store in the moment I decided to buy one of each. I ended up buying 2 Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Shadows and 1 L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow. I bought both maybe I wanted to be able to test out both and do comparisons. I bought one Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal by EyeStudio 24HR Eyeshadow in #70 Barely Branded and one Maybelline Color Tattoo by EyeStudio 24HR Eyeshadow in #25 Bad to the Bronze. And I bought one L'Oreal 24HR Infallible Eye Shadow in #890 Bronzed Taupe.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadows First Impressions:

I think the packaging is very cute! I like how the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadows come in little glass jars. Maybelline put the product information on the top cap of the product. When the product is sitting and you are looking on top of it, it says the product information. When you are looking at the product from the bottom it is a glass jar so you can see the color of the product. It also has some product information. I know I'm probably not describing that well. I hope the pictures can give you an idea. It's a really cute way of packaging. When you open the cap and loo inside the eyeshadows look very creamy. These are definitely cream based eyeshadows. They feel very creamy. The product appears creamy on the skin. This product is very easy to work with. One thing I did noticed that I'm not very happy about is that when you rub this product on the pigment of the product diminishes by about half. When you pick up the product on a brush or finger the pigment is there, but when you rub the product onto the eye the pigment gets washed out as you rub the product in. I noticed that the product keeps its vibrant pigmented color when you apply the product by gently tapping it onto the eye lids. I would definitely recommend tapping it on with fingers/brush rather than swiping. I will have to disagree with the product claim that the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadows are 24 hours. It is the most blatant product lie I have personally heard in a while. Wow. Honestly, these barely last a couple of hours on me. I will have to say that when I first tried this product out I did not apply any kind of primer at all on my eyes. The first night I applied this product to my eyes and slept with it on. I woke up the next morning not even seeing that I had any kind of eye shadow on overnight. These are the most untattooing eyeshadows I have ever used or maybe I just have the most oiliest eye lids ever. I will have to play around with these and see if they last longer with a primer.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadows versus MAC Paint Pots Comparison:

Similarities:
-both have cute glass jar packaging
-both products are cream based
-Maybelline #70 Barely Branded is a very similar product to MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study: they are both a nude color with tons of shimmer
-Maybelline #25 Bad to the Bronze reminds me of the two MAC eye shadows I have in Quarry and Gleam, but combined into one product. The Maybelline #25 Bad to the Bronze would be the result product if you combined MAC's Quarry and Gleam eye shadows. It's a very pretty color.

Differences:
-MAC doesn't claim their paint pots are 24 hours but they last much longer than the Maybelline Color Tattoo products- the quality of MAC Paint Pots is way better!
-Maybelline has product writing on the top lid and on the glass bottom of the jar. It's very easy to identify the product brand name and name. MAC does not do that with their products.
-I would recommend MAC's Paint Pots over the Maybelline Color Tattoo. If you are going to save up money and invest in a product, I would rather wait to save up money for MAC Paint Pots, than waste money on the Maybelline Color Tattoos.
-I would recommend these Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshdows for teens and adults who are just starting out in makeup.

L'Oreal Paris 24HR Infallible Eye Shadow First Impressions:

Just like with the Maybelline Color Tattoo, since L'Oreal and Maybelline are owned by the same company, the product packages are very similar. I like the fact that the product brand name and name are put on the top part of the top lid. My L'Oreal product actually came in a glass-like container. I heard some people complaining about how their L'Oreal had cheap packaging that was not made of glass. L'Oreal may have recently changed that. The L'Oreal packaging isn't as cute and it does feel more cheaply made. On the bottom there is clear glass with a round design around the edges so that you can see the product color inside. The L'Oreal packaging is quite compact looking and feeling. I like the packaging, it's cute in it's own way, and I like that they used similar things that I like about the Maybelline Color Tattoo packaging. When you open the packaging there is a plastic thing inside that comes out and it says don't discard. This product feels like a more creamy powder eyeshadow. It looks and feels like a creamy powder. If you have ever used Almay Intense Eye palettes you would understand what I mean. Some people described this product as a very pressed pigment. I absolutely adore the color that I got! This product is very highly pigmented. Just like with the Maybelline Color Tattoo I noticed that if you rub this product on the vibrant pigment diminishes by about half. If you tap this product on then the product is super pigmented. Another thing I noticed about this product is that as you rub it and the color comes off, that they made this so pigmented that it would take a lot of rubbing to get this product off. I would definitely recommend tapping this product on rather than swiping it on. I will have to disagree with the L'Oreal 24HR Infallible Eye Shadow claim. The only reason why this product lasts long at all is because it has so much pigment in it that it does take a while to rub it off. But the product does rub off and quite easily, especially the shiny/glitter particles. I did not use any eye primer before applying this product. It might lasts longer with eye primer so I will have to play around with it and see. This might last a little bit longer than the Maybelline Color Tattoo because of the pigment and because it's more of a powder than cream eye shadow.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow versus L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow Comparison:

Similarities:
-packaging style is very similar- both sturdy containers, labeling, the design of the package with product info on top of lid

Differences:
-L'Oreal Infallible product size is only 3.5 grams while the Maybelline Color Tattoo product size is a bit bigger with 4 grams
-L'Oreal is more of a very soft powder while Maybelline is actually a cream
-About a $1.00 or so price difference

This is just my first impressions. I plan to really play around with all of these to test them out and see how they actually work, how long they actually last, etc. I will definitely go into more detail in the future when I review these products!

Sincerely,
Marina
