IPSY, October 2014: Starlooks Lip Gloss in Guilty Pleasure

Hi!

My birthday month was coming up in September so a month or so beforehand I decided to get on the IPSY waitlist. In really late August or Early September IPSY did their promotional thing where if you liked a bunch of youtube channels and allowed IPSY to post on your facebook page then you could get off the waitlist, so I ended up doing that. But I didn't end up getting my first IPSY bag until October 2014 which I was kind of sad about. Oh well. What really interested me in trying the beauty subscription IPSY is that it was $10.00 and the fact that people raved about how you were able to customize your bag to your likes by filling out a beauty quiz and being able to review products. I thought that was super cool! But ultimately after 4 months I ended up cancelling IPSY because IPSY kept sending me products that were not on my beauty quiz and I only rated the products I loved. I don't want to give a product a negative review when it's not that the product is bad or doesn't work for me, it's only that I did not specify I wanted to receive that product. They should make a button for that specific purpose that says something along the lines of did not request item or got too many of this item because I noticed I would get 1 hand and 1 face product pretty much in each bag. I did not request face or hand products. The one that really killed me was the dang hairspray! I don't use hairspray. I also noticed from watching other people on youtube receiving their IPSY bags with the #1 coveted makeup item that were never in my bag. I forgot now what item it was, but I think it might have been a Smashbox item. I did notice there were other items.  I'm not sure what the purpose of the beauty quiz and reviewing of the items is for, but it didn't help my bags and I also noticed maybe some popularity issues came out. If you had a lot of subscribers then you got really good products and if you didn't then you got the crap products they couldn't send to the big youtube followers. I guess that is really how I felt about IPSY, that I was getting left over stuff no one wanted and stuff that I didn't even want. Sorry about the long complaint.

IPSY gives inserts, but they don't list beauty products and prices. I don't know if they changed that or not, but in my IPSY bags I got an insert with advertisements. In this specific blog I am going to be talking about Starlooks Lip Gloss in Guilty Pleasure. I was super excited about this product even though I have never heard of the brand because I love lip products and I love discovering new lip products!

IPSY has an insert that does not include product descriptions or prices.

Comments:
According to the starlooks.com website they want $9.00 for this tiny product. It is so tiny that they don't list on the packing or on their website how much product you are supposed to get. I am not paying that much for a tiny product. Besides being super small, the packaging is cute. It is a rectangle shape with a cap that twists off and it comes with a doe foot applicator wand. I'm not sure why they think tiny cute lip glosses are going to be appealing, but to me they are not. If I am going to buy a lip gloss I want it to have a lot of product in it so that I can get uses out of it. I guess if you buy this as a specialty item that you wear for a special occasion, I literally mean one because by the end of the night if not sooner you would run out of product. Another reason might be to buy it to test out the colors of the product to see which ones you like and don't like. Or it might be a great stocking stuffer. The holidays are coming up in the next few months. 1. for one special occasion 2. to see which color you like or 3. as a gift/stocking stuffer. The pigment of this lip gloss is actually good I would say sheer to medium coverage and it is buildable to the medium coverage. I put on two layers. I love the color. It is really pretty. The application of this product is smooth and even. The longevity of this product is the same as any other lip gloss product. The glossy part lasts longer than the pigment, but that's normal for lip glosses. It also depends on how much you lick your lips and do things with your mouth like eating, drinking, etc. This lip gloss has a very strong scent, you can't smell it once it's on the lips, but it smells like a very sweet dessert. The website describes it as exotic vanilla. It is so good! Surprisingly even though there is no good taste to it this product does not have a chemical or bad after taste at all. There is a very slight waxy taste, but it's not bad at all. The texture of this lip gloss is very smooth and light weight even when building layers. It is not sticky! This product is great for normal and dry lips. It is so glossy that it would slide right over dry lips easily, especially the second layer. Overall, I love how glossy this lip gloss is and I am in love with the color! Dare I say it, I feel like a star wearing this lip gloss, lol. Since it is under my $10 lip gloss limit I probably would buy this lip gloss, but I would be hesitant. If it was in a bigger packaging I wouldn't hesitate, but the tiny package with the $9.00 price tag is a bummer.

Sincerely,
Marina
